San Francisco:
It goes down tomorrow morning…

Before you take your joyride on trolleys and gorge on hot chocolate at Ghiradelli Square, don’t forget to set the DVR timer for 24 for me tonight! Thaaanks.
Oh, and watch out for Smug.

The Helio Sequence - “Hallelujah”

What’s the bravest thing you ever did?
He spat in the road a bloody phlegm. Getting up this morning, he said.

Cormac McCarthy (The Road)

Attempting to read a book a week this year to finally make a dent in my absurdly long reading queue. This was book #3.

On the way to Castle Bran. Three cheers to Vlad the Impaler (Dracula!, who actually never lived there but whatever. The souvenir shops would lead you to believe otherwise. It was more like the Queen’s summer home).

Trip Status: I’ve been in the countryside (Leresti, 2 hours outside of Bucharest) the past 4 days. A few years ago my parents bought a home right next door to my aunt’s parents, whom we used to stay with whenever we visited. Last time I was here I was 12, the summer before entering 8th grade. And other than a supermarket down the road, amazing mountain water now being directly piped into homes, and wireless internet/cable TV, not much has changed. Shepherds are still moseying around with their sheep, cows and chickens are common backyard animals, and there are still roadside folks hawking their cheese, sausages and wool vests.
We’ve been having daily breakfasts and dinners with my aunt’s family, and the food is exceptional because most everything they serve is home grown on their farm. I’ve even given in and tried cow tongue, cow heart and pig skin. Not something I’ll continue eating once I’m home, but Mr. Bourdain would be proud.

José González - “Last Snowstorm of the Year”

From a wedding back in September with my sister-in-law Coca on the left and my sister Ligia on the right.
I chronicled the events through a little Disney screencap magic. Alas, the troll won in the end (damn it).
